HL Deb 21 July 1980 vol 412 cc184-5WA
Lord VAIZEY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What action they intend to take in the light of the findings of the European Commission on Human Rights in respect of the complaint by Mr. Jeffrey Dudgeon.

The PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY of STATE, NORTHERN IRELAND OFFICE (Lord Elton)

The commission's report, which is not a judicial decision, is made to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe who, unless the case is referred to the European Court of Human Rights by the commission, will reach a final decision on whether the convention has been violated. When the convention procedure is completed, the Government will consider the present position in the light of the findings of the Committee of Ministers or the European Court.
