The EC Commission, with the support of the United Kingdom Government, is seeking to reach an agreement with the United States whereby the latter would accept certain reductions in the common external tariff, in return for368W which the United States would forgo its rights under the GATT to retaliation against EC exports for the measures taken by the Community to restrict imports of certain synthetic textiles into the United Kingdom.
