Mr. Millan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any proposals for increasing the scales of guaranteed prices for sheep in anticipation of the introduction of the European Economic Community sheepmeat regime; and whether he will announce the new prices before the autumn sales period.

Mr. Younger

While the timetable is not within the United Kingdom Government's control we shall certainly do everything we can to help get the proposed regime in operation at the earliest possible date. We are currently considering the arrangements for implementing the regime in the United Kingdom and while the date cannot yet be determined we shall make an announcement on the arrangements as soon as possible.
