Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a statement on the proposal by Unimation Inc. to set up a factory in Telford to develop robots; how much grant his department is contributing towards this factory, and on what terms; and what other funds are being provided.
§ Mr. David MitchellThe Department of Industry will be providing an interest relief grant of £240,000 under section 8 of the Industry Act to Unimation Inc. towards the establishment at the company's Telford factory of facilities for the manufacture of the Puma robot. The terms of the grant are commercially confidential. The National Research and Development Corporation will be providing £420,000 towards the project, in the form of a joint venture investment recoverable from sales revenue.
