§ Mr. Ron Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science, having regard to the discretion to be given to local education authorities in relation to school meals provision, what guidance he proposes to give to local authorities as to the service they should provide to pupils who bring sandwiches to school, in view of the letter circulated by the Cumbria education authority that it does not intend to provide free water, plates or cutlery to children who bring sandwiches to school.
§ Dr. BoysonUnder clause 22 of the Education (No. 2) Bill local education authorities will have a duty to provide facilities free of charge for pupils wishing to bring their own food to school. My716W right hon. and learned Friend has not yet considered whether guidance to local education authorities about the facilities to be provided will be necessary.
