§ Mr. McCuskerasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether, in view of the arrangements pertaining to England and Wales, he will consider transferring responsibility for sport and physical recreation in Northern Ireland to the Department of the Environment under similar arrangements; and, if not, why not.
§ Mr. GoodhartThe Government are quite satisfied with existing arrangements in Northern Ireland whereby the Department of Education carries central responsibility for sporting, recreational, youth, community and cultural activities. These activities are closely related to and complement the Department's main responsibility for education at all levels, and there are therefore no plans for change.
