HC Deb 22 February 1980 vol 979 c351W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Lord Privy Seal why the Government have abstained on recent United Nations General Assembly resolutions upholding the right of the people of East Timor to self-determination.

Mr. Blaker

We continue to uphold the right of the people of East Timor to self-determination, but, like the previous Government and other members of the European Community, we consider that recent General Assembly resolutions on East Timor have been unconstructive.
