§ 10. Mr. Hooleyasked the Lord Privy Seal what reports have been received from the Secretary-General of the United Nations about the situation in South Lebanon and the execution of its mandate by the United Nations interim force in the Lebanon; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdA copy of the Secretary-General's latest report, published on 14 December 1979, is in the Library of the House. Her Majesty's Government support its conclusions and voted for the extension of the force's mandate for a further six months, until 19 June 1980. Recent events in the Lebanon indicate how necessary it is for all parties to exercise restraint not only in the south but throughout the whole country. We call on all concerned to back the Lebanese Government in their efforts to restore national unity.
