§ Mr. Robed Sheldon
asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what studies he is carrying out on the relationship between the cost of cigarettes and the incidence of lung cancer.
§ Dr. Vaughan
The Department is carrying out no studies on this specific relationship. It is well known that the incidence of lung cancer increases with the number of cigarettes smoked, and that price is the factor most directly 637W affecting changes in the consumption of cigarettes.
