§ 29. Mr. Strangasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many young people in Scotland are unemployed at present; and if he will make a statement on the job prospects for such school leavers in 1980.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherOn 10 January 22,400 young people under the age of 18 were registered as unemployed in Scotland, of whom 13,300 were school leavers. Job prospects for these young people, as for adults, will depend largely on the way in which industry—employ-226W ers and trade unions—respond to the measures we have taken to reduce inflation and create a soundly based economy in Scotland and in the rest of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. Ernie Rossasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the number of unemployed under the age of 18 years in Dundee in each year since 1970; and what percentage of the total number of unemployed in Dundee each number represents, taking the figures for June of each year as the annual figure.
§ Mr. Alexander FletcherInformation is not available in the precise form requested because no analysis of the unemployed register by age is carried out in June. The information for July of each year is given in the following table.
