HC Deb 19 December 1980 vol 996 c367W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the withdrawal of stock relief on manufactured goods imported from non European Economic Community countries would contravene the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade or any other international trading agreement.

Mr. Peter Rees

[pursuant to his reply, 18 December 1980]: Questions relating to agreements on trade are primarily a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade. However, I understand that to discriminate in the tax system against imported goods would contravene international obligations under the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
