§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Trade whether, in strengthening the legislation on origin marking, he will take steps to assist British consumers who, anxious to help Great Britain by purchasing British-made goods, purchase goods with well known British-made names, packed and on show as though they are British, but with a concealed tab attached to them indicating a foreign origin.
§ Mrs. Sally OppenheimI see no need at present to strengthen the requirement of the Trade Descriptions Act 1972, under which a United Kingdom name or mark on imported goods must be accompanied by a conspicuous indication of the country in which the goods were manufactured.
