§ Mr. Neil MartenSince Zimbabwe became independent, the total of British aid funds spent on training of Zimbabweans is approximately £4,744,000. Of this sum, £4,349,000 has been spent on continuing awards under the pre-independence arrangements for training Zimbabweans in this country, within Zimbabwe itself and in third countries of the Commonwealth. In addition, £395,000 has been spent on new training approved since independence, including further courses for Zimbabwean students finishing intermediate courses under the pre-independence arrangements.
Each of the agencies which administer the various elements in this programme presents an annual audited statement of account, or in one case a certified statement of account, after the end of its respective financal year. In addition, some agencies present quarterly accounts.
