HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c252W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will take steps to exercise control over substandard ships entering British waters.

Mr. Tebbit

All ships in United Kingdom ports and waters are subject to a wide range of safety requirements. As indicated in my answer to my hon. Friend the Member for Northwich (Mr. Goodlad) on 2 December—[Vol. 995, c. 103–4]—we are planning to intensify port safety enforcement measures on visiting foreign ships during 1981.
