HC Deb 18 December 1980 vol 996 c261W
Mr. Dudley Smith

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many men are currently in prison as a result of their non-payment of maintenance orders made against them.

Mr. Brittan

On 31 October 1980 there were about 120 males in prison department establishments in England and Wales following committal by magistrates' courts for nonpayment of maintenance or affiliation orders. This figure excludes any prisoners who may have been held in police cells.
