asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Wolverhampton, North-East on 24 June, how much was spent on (a) construction and (b) repair and maintenance of sewers by each region in 1979–80.

In the year ending 31 March 1980 the water authorities in England and Wales spent £171 million on new sewerage construction and £43.5 million on repair and maintenance of sewers. Following are the individual regional figures:
