§ Mr. Robert C. Brownasked the Secretary of State for Employment how many people there are at present on youth opportunities programme schemes in (a) the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, (b) Tyneside, and (c) the Northern region.
§ Mr. Jim LesterI am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that at the end of October 1980 there were some 18,000 young people participating in the youth opportunities programme in MSC Northern region.
It is not possible to supply similar information for Tyneside or for the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
However, in the period April 1980 to end October 1980 approximately 5,200 young people had entered the programme in the Tyneside area. Of these approximately 1,670 young people entered the programme in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne.
