§ Mr. GoodhartThe information requested by the hon. Gentleman on total applications and acceptances is not readily available and could not be readily obtained. Of those undergraduate students accepted by universities in Great Britain through the Universities Central Council on Admissions—UCCA—in the year 1978–79 academic year, the latest year for which information is available, 1971 were from Northern Ireland. So far, 2,869 students from Northern Ireland have received grants from public funds to attend universities in Great Britain in the 1980–81 academic year. Of these, 1,019 were first-year students or students on one-year courses.
