HC Deb 08 December 1980 vol 995 c257W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many accidents involving Armed Services vehicles were recorded during 1979 in the United Kingdom in which civilian property or persons were damaged or harmed.

Mr. Hayhoe

It is not possible to provide precisely the information requested. During 1979 vehicles under the control of the Ministry of Defence were involved in a total of 9,080 accidents in the United Kingdom. Without expending a disproportionate amount of effort on research, we are unable to distinguish cases involving civilian persons or property from those involving injury to members of the Armed Services or damage to MoD property alone.
