HC Deb 02 December 1980 vol 995 c116W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland, in view of his reply to the hon. Member for Dundee, West on 27 October, showing that unemployment in each special development area in Scotland—Dundee and Arbroath, Glenrothes, Livingston, and West Central Scotland—has increased in the past year, if he will take further measures to stimulate the local economy in these areas.

Mr. Alexander Fletcher

The review of regional policy which took place in July 1979 recognised that the areas now designated as special development areas faced the most severe economic and structural problems in Scotland. We are giving greatest priority to these areas in making regional assistance available and will continue to do so.
