§ Mr. Frank Allaun
asked the Secretary of State for Defence, (1) what research is being undertaken by his Department with regard to the development of nuclear fallout shelters; and what financial provision is allowed for this purpose;
(2) what advice has been given by his Department or what consultation has been sought concerning the manufacture and marketing of nuclear fall-out shelters by pirate firms.
§ Mr. Pym
As regards domestic shelters, I refer the hon. Gentleman to the answer given by my hon. and learned Friend the Minister of State on 27 March 1980 [Vol. 981, c.657–8].
As regards military shelters, summaries of research which has been carried out have been made available to firms on request. However, since we already have an adequate design for field use no such research is being undertaken by my Department now.
