asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many officers have resigned their commissions from the Army; and how many of the other ranks have left voluntarily before completion of their engagements since February 1980.

In the period 1 February to 31 October 1980 a total of 421 officers and 2,239 other ranks left the Army on premature voluntary release.
