asked the Secretary of State for Trade what has been the volume of eggs imported into the United Kingdom in each of the last six months and the volume of eggs exported from the United Kingdom in the same period.

Details of overseas trade in fresh and preserved poultry eggs in the shell other than for hatching are published in tables IV (imports) and VII (exports) of the monthly issues of theOverseas Trade Statistics of the United Kingdom under SITC (R2) sub-group 025.1 against code number 0405 1400. Copies are in the Library.

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he has carried out any investigation into the suggestion that imported eggs may be on sale or have been sold in breach of the Trades Description Act.

No. Any alleged breaches of the Trade Descriptions Acts 1968 and 1972 should be referred to local trading standards authorities, which are responsible for enforcing the Acts.
