HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc395-6W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what share of the markets for cars, pottery, clothing and electrical goods is now enjoyed by the United Kingdom in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Nigeria, India and Kenya; and how this compares with 1972.

Mr. Tebbit

[pursuant to his reply, 7 August 1980, c. 241]: The derivation of the full range of information cannot be undertaken readily, if at all. There would be many problems of estimation arising from, for example, the unavailability of statistics in sufficient detail for some countries, and also from the need to reconcile production and overseas trade statistics compiled on different classifications. Additionally, the latest year for which international sources give a fairly full range of production information is 1976.
