HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc397-8W
Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the latest estimated figure for the amount of money repaid by British companies on foreign loans for the current year.

Mr. Lawson

I have been asked to reply.

Information is not available on loan repayments in the first half of 1980. In the second half of 1979 United Kingdom borrowers made net repayments of £965 million on foreign currency loans from United Kingdom banks taken out to finance investment overseas; they also made net repayments of £334 million on loans from banks overseas.
