HC Deb 08 August 1980 vol 990 cc365-6W
Mr. Carter-Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will indicate the number of children and young people who have benefited from the use of Blisssymbolics in the United Kingdom; if he will give an estimate of the number of potential users of this system as a means of communication; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. Boyson

This information is not available in the Department. Blisssymbolics is one of several systems of symbols or manual signing for those suffering from physical or mental handicap, deafness, autism or defect of speech and the choice of system is entirely a matter for the particular school or teacher concerned.
