HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 c134W
Mr. Lyell

asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether he is satisfied that facilities for the production of Phurnacite are sufficient to meet anticipated demand; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Moore

The supply of Phurnacite is a commercial matter for the NCB. Its subsidiary, National Smokeless Fuels Limited, is having discussions with the alkali inspectorate, the local authorities and the unions representing the work force to see how best to continue production whilst minimising the environmental problems. I also refer my hon. Friend to my reply to the hon. Member for Aberdare (Mr. Evans) on 21 July.
