asked the Secretary of State for Employment if the vacancies in Her Majesty's Factory Inspectorate have now been filled.

As a result of competitions and other methods of entry since autumn 1979, a further 32 inspectors have taken up duty with the factory inspectorate.

The future recruitment of factory inspectors will depend on the outcome of the reappraisal of the manpower needs of the Health and Safety Executive in the light of the Government's announced policy of cuts in Civil Service manpower.
