HC Deb 06 August 1980 vol 990 c219W
Dr. M. S. Miller

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what steps he is taking to prevent private companies offering cash payments to blood donors in the United Kingdom;

(2) if he intends to introduce cash payments to blood donors through the National Health Service or any of its agencies.

Dr. Vaughan

I wish to preserve the voluntary blood donor system in this country. I do not intend to introduce payment to donors and, if necessary, I should be prepared to discourage private companies from offering them.
