§ Mr. Peter WalkerThe EEC less favoured areas directive lays down maximum limits for hill livestock compensatory allowances. These limits are expressed in sterling at the conversion rate applicable on 1 January: the present United Kingdom limits therefore reflect all the green pound devaluations in 1979. The actual rates of allowance paid per annum within these limits are fixed by individual member States.
