HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 cc47-8W
Mr. Needham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many of those becoming unemployed in 1977, 1978 and 1979 received earnings-related supplement and no redundancy pay.

Mrs. Chalker

I regret that the full information requested is not available. An estimated 1 million unemployed claimants received earnings-related supplement in 1979, including those who became unemployed in 1978. It is not known how many of these received redundancy payments under voluntary or statutory arrangements. The numbers receiving statutory redundancy payments in 1977, 1978 and 1979 were 267, 234, 255, 484 and 253,594 respectively.
