HC Deb 21 April 1980 vol 983 cc14-5W
Mr. Churchill

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government to continue to channel public moneys earmarked for overseas aid through British charities even in the case where the Charity Commissioners have found the charity to have undertaken activities that are not within its objects nor within the scope of charitable endeavour.

Mr. Neil Marten

I am aware that the Charity Commissioners are considering certain activities of some charities through which aid funds are channelled to specific approved overseas aid projects. The review does not concern the application of these funds, which is carefully monitored. Pending its completion, I see no reason to suspend the use of these channels within the joint funding scheme.
