§ Mr. Whiteheadasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what account is being taken of national insurance contributions already paid in the Government's policy on the abolition of the earnings-related supplement to unemployment benefits.
§ Mr. Prentice[pursuant to his reply, 3 April 1980]: The National Insurance system is funded on a "pay as you go" basis. Abolition of the earnings-related supplement will not occur until the 198182 financial year and the level of contributions in that year will be set following the Government Actuary's annual review of the expected income to, and outgoings from, the National Insurance Fund.
