HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 cc521-2W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will set up, on the lines similar to those now being sponsored on the liaison between doctors and other primary care workers, a study of iatrogenic diseases, diseases caused directly or indirectly by treatment, in the community, to support a survey carried out by Dr. Scotson in Cheshire.

Dr. Vaughan

I have no plans to do so, but I am prepared to consider requests for research funds from any general medical practitioner who wishes to pursue research in an area which is likely to improve the quality of care in the National Health Service. In addition, financial assistance with research may be considered by regional health authorities and the local faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners may also be wil- ling to offer guidance on research into aspects of primary health care.
