HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 cc525-6W
Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, in view of the reduction in the chiropody service which has led to an increase in the degree of immobility to be found in the elderly sections of the population, if he will consider authorising family practitioner committees to finance voluntary car schemes for the transport of elderly patients to doctors' surgeries.

Sir George Young

Statistics show that the number of persons receiving chiropody treatment has increased in recent years. General practitioners have an obligation to visit patients in their own homes if their condition so requires. The Department has no plans for new financial arrangements affecting voluntary car schemes in the way proposed.
