HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 c471W
Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress he has made in his consideration of overnight detoxification.

Mr. Brittan

We are discussing with voluntary organisations whether some existing overnight shelters for homeless people could, with aid from public funds, make special provision for drunks who might otherwise be arrested, kept overnight in police cells, and charged with drunkenness offences.
