§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the defence issues concerning the possible building of a rail Channel tunnel; and how such a tunnel could be protected from bombs placed in the tunnel or on trains by terrorists and enemies of the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. SpeedThe defence issues arising from the possible building of a Channel tunnel will be fully considered if proposals for such a tunnel go ahead. The question of protection of any such tunnel from terrorist attacks would be a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
