HC Deb 14 April 1980 vol 982 c447W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will make a statement on the defence issues concerning the possible building of a rail Channel tunnel; and how such a tunnel could be protected from bombs placed in the tunnel or on trains by terrorists and enemies of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Speed

The defence issues arising from the possible building of a Channel tunnel will be fully considered if proposals for such a tunnel go ahead. The question of protection of any such tunnel from terrorist attacks would be a matter for my right hon. Friend the Home Secretary.
