§ 44. Mr. Jim Marshallasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will issue advice to local education authorities on ways of maintaining standards in schools which are affected by cuts in education expenditure and falling school rolls.
§ Dr. BoysonMy right hon. and learned Friend's proposals for a framework for the school curriculum, published in January, emphasise that falling school rolls and the need to limit public expenditure make it important to establish priorities for the available resources and to redeploy resources where appropriate. In the light of the consultations now in progress on these proposals, we intend in due course to publish guidance for local education authorities and schools. The Government's recently announced expenditure plans allow for some increase in expenditure per pupil as school rolls fall.
