HC Deb 30 October 1979 vol 972 cc510-1W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what steps the Government are taking to minimise the exposure of the public, and particularly of children, to radiation during medical treatment.

Sir George Young

The exposure of patients to radiation during treatment is a matter for the clinical judgment of the doctor administering the treatment. The "Code of Practice for the Protection of Persons against Ionizing Radiations arising from Medical and Dental Use" includes guidance on measures to be taken to reduce exposures to both adults and children to the necessary minimum. This code is currently being revised by the National Radiological Protection Board.
