§ Mr. Altonasked the Lord Privy Seal if, in the light of two million suspected deaths in Cambodia at the hands of the Pol Pot regime, Her Majesty's Government intend to withdraw recognition of this Government.
§ Mr. BlakerRecognition does not imply approval of a regime's actions or policies. The previous Government, who cited the enormity of Pol Pot's human rights violations before the United Nations Human Rights Commission in March 1978, continued to recognise that regime. Despite the loss of control of the greater part of the territory of Cambodia by the Pol Pot regime, there is no other Government which satisfies the criteria for recognition which have been applied by successive British Governments.
