§ Mr. McQuarrieasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will issue a statement on his discussions on 18 September with the chairman of British Rail, and what was the result of his discussions arising out of the telegram sent to him by the hon. Member for Aberdeenshire, East regarding the long-term plan for rural railway services for passengers and freight in the light of future energy problems.
§ Mr. RifkindAs a result of my right hon. Friend's general discussion with the chairman of British Rail I was satisfied 183W that the British Railways Board took into account all relevant factors in considering the future of these operations. However, responsibility for rail policy and investment rests with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
