§ Mr. Peter WalkerI have commissioned a management review of my Department in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Lord President of the Council. The purpose of the review is to improve the effectiveness of the Ministry's organisation, the management of its resources and the way it carries out its major tasks. It will not re-examine Government policies. The review will be directed by a steering committee of senior officers of the Ministry, the Civil Service Department and the Treasury, chaired by my permanent secretary, with the aid of a small management review team drawn from the Ministry and the Civil Service Department. Comments have been received from a wide range of interested organisations. I hope that the review will be completed in nine months.
