HL Deb 23 October 1979 vol 402 c67WA
Lord MURRAY of GRAVESEND

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether it is possible to make special arrangements to keep the Department of the Environment shop in Parliament Street open during July, August and September;

and:

What is the estimated loss of revenue due to the closure for 6 weeks during July, August and September of the Department of the Environment shop in Parliament Street.

Lord MOWBRAY and STOURTON

No. The future operation of the Department of the Environment shop has been considered and it has been decided to close the shop because of estimated accumulated losses of £22,000 since shop opened in 1971, which have been only partially offset by a surplus of £9,000 in Jubilee Year. In view of this there is little point in estimating losses that would have been made had the shop been open during July, August and September.
