HC Deb 30 November 1979 vol 974 cc861-2W
Mr. Leighton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade how many of his officials were sent to Brussels in 1978 to discuss EEC matters; what was the total man-days involved; and what was the cost to public funds of travel and subsistence, including sums reimbursed by the Commission.

Mr. Nott

I regret that information in this form is not readily available and could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, in 1978 the total expenditure for overseas visits on EEC business was approximately £126,000 of which the Commission reimbursed £77,000. Most of the visits would be to Brussels.

no evidence of abuse which would justify further legislation.
