53. Mr. John Townend

asked the Lord Privy Seal what gross public expenditure has been spent so far in 1979 in aid to the following countries Vietnam, Tanzania, Algeria, Angola, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Afghanistan and Laos.

Mr. Hurd

Provisional expenditure on aid to these countries totalled £31,847,000 from January to September 1979, of which about a half was accounted for by Tanzania. Details by country are attached. As part of the current review of aid policy we are looking at the distributions of our bilateral aid. No new commitments have been entered into since May for aid to either Vietnam or Mozambique.
