HC Deb 27 November 1979 vol 974 c609W
Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether the Government intend to make district council boundaries coterminous with the revised parliamentary constituency boundaries.

Mr. King

Local authority boundaries are determined according to the needs of effective and convenient local government. On the other hand, parliamentary constituency boundaries must pay attention to the size of electorates and it is not always possible to reconcile this with the needs of local government.
