§ Mr. RidleyThe grant to the Commonwealth Institute during the current year is expected, subject to parliamentary approval, to be £1,351,000. Whilst the institute, like other bodies funded by Government money, is having to make some economies in expenditure to keep within the amount of its grant, it is continuing to operate effectively and to cover the maintenance costs of the building and the salary increases of staff.
