§ Mr. Cantasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in order to assist local councils in making expenditure savings in 1980–81, he will discuss with them alternative ways of funding the local government superannunation scheme.
§ Mr. KingI have been asked to reply.
I do not believe that such discussions would serve any useful purpose. I understand that both local authorities and the organisations representing their staff have made it clear that they would be opposed to any change in the present basis for the funding of the local government superannuation scheme.
