HL Deb 20 November 1979 vol 403 c110WA
Lord BROCKWAY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How the United Nations General Assembly voted on the motion submitted by Ambassador Mesteri of Tunisia, on behalf of the Group 77 (now 122) developing nations, for global negotiations within the United Nations framework on world economic issues and what was the attitude of the United Kingdom delegation.

Lord CARRIGNTON

The General Assembly is still considering this important proposal. Our view is that, if such negotiations are to be fruitful, they must not cut across the work of established international bodies or of existing negotiations on world economic issues.

House adjourned at twenty-five minutes past seven o'clock.
