HC Deb 20 November 1979 vol 974 c110W
18. Mr. Bowden

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what guidance he has given local education authorities about the scale of charges for use of school premises by voluntary organisations.

Mr. Macfarlane

My right hon. and learned Friend has not issued any guidance to local education authorities about the scale of charges for use of school premises by voluntary organisations.

The use of county school premises outside normal school hours is a matter for local education authorities, subject to any powers delegated to the managers or governors under the articles of government. In the case of voluntary schools the managers or governors are entitled to control the occupation and use of school premises, subject to the provisions set out in section 22 of the Education Act 1944.
